Moscow Exchange: Russia’s MICEX rises 27%, RTS 52% in 2016
MOSCOW, Dec 30 (PRIME) -- Russia’s MICEX index increased by almost 27% in 2016 to 2,232.72 points as of the Friday closure, while the RTS index jumped by about 52% to 1,152.33 points due to strengthening of the ruble and of oil prices, according to data of the Moscow Exchange.
The ruble rose by about 20.5% against the U.S. dollar and by almost 25% against the euro in 2016, the data showed.
The Brent oil price also soared more than 50% in the period.
As of 7.00 p.m. Moscow time, the Brent oil price stood at U.S. $56.57 per barrel, according to the ICE exchange.
